Morgellons symptoms

There are numerous symptoms attributed to Morgellons, many can be linked to already known ailments but some do appear specific to Morgellons alone. The similarity of symptoms has lead most doctors to discount Morgellons as a new and previously unheard of disease. The majority of the medical world are, in fact, more inclined to class Morgellons as an imaginary complaint rather than an actual one.

Some of the symptoms described below do indeed favor many already well known complaint but others are new and previously unknown. Some reported symptoms do in fact border on the unbelievable and it is these that have caused the imaginations of many to run wild with far fetched theories of alien spore invasions and secret government biological germ testing. As Orson Wells once proved with a certain radio show, some people will believe anything.

The more common complaints are, sensations of insect-like crawling, stinging or biting on or under the skin. Skin rashes and lesions that do not heal, Joint, muscle and connective tissue pain, including fibromyalgia. Debilitating fatigue, cognitive dysfunction, including difficulty with concentration, short-term memory, and attention span.

Most of these symptoms can be easily attributed to many other well known, documented illnesses, one in particular, Lyme disease, is very striking in the similarity of description, but it is the sometimes accompanying symptoms that have allowed for many imaginative and fanciful alien or conspiracy theories.

Some of the more unusual symptoms of Morgellons include fibres growing out of the skin or open sores, these fibers are described as of varying colors and shapes. Sometimes these fibres are described as balls of fibres rather than single strands. Alleged tests conducted on these fibers claim to show them to be tiny tubes of protein, although it must be said that the real mystery here is more a case of who by and when were these tests conducted.

Another of the unusual reported symptoms are of granules or crystals that appear on or under the skin or that can be found in the open sores that most sufferers claim to be covered with.

Many symptoms attributed to morgellons can and possibly do relate to other known illnesses, but some of the more unusual ones do tend to give cause for concern. It will only be when there has been a full and extensive study of all the facts that the medical world will finally be able to say with conviction that Morgellons is real or imagined.
